The Ligue Magnus is the top-level ice hockey league in France. It was founded in 1906, and currently consists of 12 teams.

 

The league operates on a promotion/relegation system with the second-tier league, the Division 1. The regular season typically runs from September to February, with the playoffs taking place in March and April.

 

The most successful team in the history of the Ligue Magnus is Chamonix, with 30 titles to their name. Other notable teams include Rouen, Grenoble, and Angers.

 

The league has also seen a number of international players compete over the years, including many from Canada, the United States, and Scandinavia. The Ligue Magnus has also produced a number of players who have gone on to play in the NHL, including Cristobal Huet, Philippe Bozon, and Antoine Roussel.
